Hi
I need to expand the RAID on a customers NT 4.0 server. The server has a C: and D:drive currently on one Logical RAID 5 Drive. I know we can add additional drives to the Array but I'm sure we can't expand the NTFS partition to take in the additional Disk space (Without additional tools like Partition Magic). and hence would need to create an additional E:drive rather than expand the D: drive.
Can any one confirm that.
Thanks for your time.

you are correct - expanding array is no probs but ms has the nice drive letter limitation

partition magic works a treat on it though or portlock etc

I don't know about working like a treat... I've seen partition magic go bad on 98 machines. If its a NT box that's been around a few years, I see a lot of downside. I wouldn't be doing that unless I absolutely had to, and I would do it on a weekend. Make damn sure your backups are good, that means you have restored one to an alternate location and compared with the exisiting data.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
