expand outlook folders when new mail received- HOW?

Hi bit of a strange one here- we have recently change from a simple pop server to exchange 5.5, one of our users used to have their inbox set up so when mail is received it goes to a folder for the person sending it(a simple sort rule) and also it would expand to that folder so you could see the mail received (the folder goes into bold).

However on the new setup with exchange, the client is exactly the same but doesnt expand anymore... cant find an option anywhere to set it to do that either.

any ideas guys and gals?
