Exclude mac address on dhcpsrvr, howto ?

Hello everyone
When I enter a MAC-address in "global preferences->Exclude addresses" in DNS/DHCP Management Console it doesn´t seem to take effect, do I have to unload and then load dhcpsrvr for it to take effect or is there an easier way ?

Usually, I have to unload and reload DHCPSRVR on the server - might be worth giving it a go!

how will that effect users currently connected ? will they have to reboot their computers ?

No, your users will already have a leased DHCP address and will therefore work without interruption. As long as you unload and reload it there and then, there will be no effect on users. If you leave DHCP unloaded, PCs that boot up and try to get an IP Address will fail.

If I wanna end the lease of an ip for a computer, how can I do that ?

What is your lease set to? If your lease is a short lease (8 hours), power the PC off overnight and it will end then. You don't want to get into the habit of having to make a change and unloading/reloading DHCPSRVR all of the time because that may cause problems with your server.

At my place, we have 8 hour leases so that laptops do not have issues when customers move from site to site on a daily basis.

we have three day leases. I was just curious if a lease could be ended manually...

You can delete the IP lease from the DHCP/DNS Console, however it is recommended that the device with the address is switched off and sometimes you have to unload and reload DHCPSRVR in order for it to properly take effect (in my experience).
