When I restart, it is supposed to start automatically but it doesn't. I go into services and try to start them manually and I get errors stating that it is dependent on another program that will not start. It will not let me start anything with exchange. I don't understand because everything has been running great for a long time.

We are running exchange 5.5

Note: I have Norton antivirus running, and when I came in this morning it prompted me that it found the my doom A virus in the C:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\edb.log, but it quarantined it. I went in to make sure that the log is still there in c: and it is. I also ran the removal tool but it did not detect the mydoom virus on my machine.

Please help

Thank you
AJ

The virus is definitely your problem, quarantining a log file while exchange is running is a no no.

You are going to have to rubn Isinteg and eseutil to fix you information store to get back up.

I have seen threads here where people had the same problem and I haven't so look around a little if you need more specific instructions.

Also in the future you want to exclude your exchange directories from the scan. See Norton site for exactly which ones and how.

First you have to make sure you exclude the exchsrvr folder from your anti-virus scan.
Then restore the edb file.
Then restart the server.
That SHOULD do it. (unfortunately for me, my AV software permanently deleted my file, I'm trying to fix it now...)

Check out this thread. I had the same thing happen to me this morning and it saved my bacon.

Thank you to everyone, Tahoe, your advice worked great! Thanks again!

Glad I could help! Be sure to exclude the C:\Temp folder as well, Exchange uses this, and will quarantine the edb file from here.
