Small office migrating to SBS 2003 and exchange server for email.

POP3 connector was pulling down email and was working correctly. Right around the same time SP1 for Server 2003(not exchange sp1) the connector was retrieving email but it did not appear in the user mailbox as before. User Mailbox was selected correctly and if the client pulled down the email from the pop3 account it was then put correctly in the user mailbox.

Main Issue:
Is there a chance of finding out where the email went and to recover it? Where would I look?

Thanks.

Well the Queues are empty. I deleted the POP3 connector and recreated it and appears to be functioning fine again.

I now have to ask "Is it possible to get out of the world of hurt?".

The installed update appears to be the standard SP1 not the SBS. Most things appear to be running ok but have a "Undeliverable:" message on some outgoing emails(but they seem to be going through anyway).

There is a "uninstall" option in the Add/Remove programs list for the SP1. Would this be advised? Then go through the recommended upgrade process?

Thanks for the SBS 2003 Link for SP1. That would have been good to know a few days back.

You can safely apply the SBS update after the regular SP1 to fix things that regular SP1 will break. Other installs to do FIRST before the SBS SP1 are:

1. Windows SharePoint SP1
2. Exchange SP1 (requires a post install hotfix)

After installing all of the above THEN install SBS SP1.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark,

Thanks for the help, your experience/knowledge with SBS SP1 is just what I was needing. I will give it a shot and let you know how it went.

(and another star)
Much apprieciated for the help.

Make sure you budget some time. Our installation with all of the above took several hours, but that included the regular SP1 first. Good luck.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Just to make an update:

The help was much apprieciated and the additional updates to SP1 went through without any issues. Thanks markdmac.

The email that was lost is still lost but I attribute that to a broken POP3 connector occuring from the installation of the regular windows server 2003 SP1. This was corrected by deleting and recreating the POP3 connector.
