This has happened about 5 times over the past 3 weeks, and I have no idea where it is coming from. At some point in the day users cannot open or view their mailboxes with Outlook. When I check the Exchange Server's event viewer, the following errors are listed:

Error ESE98 Event ID 486
Information Store (4288) An attempt to move the file "C:\exchsrvr\MDBDATA\E00.log" to "C:\exchsrvr\MDBDATA\E0003C45.log" failed with system error 32 (0x00000020): "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. ". The move file operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).

Error ESE98 Event ID 413
Information Store (4288) Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive. The drive may be read-only, out of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted. Error -1032.

Error ESE98 Event ID 492
Information Store (4288) The logfile sequence in "C:\exchsrvr\MDBDATA\" has been halted due to a fatal error. No further updates are possible for the databases that use this logfile sequence. Please correct the problem and restart or restore from backup.

Error MSExchangeIS Event ID 9558
An error occurred while writing to the database log file of storage group "First Storage Group". Attempting to unmount all databases in this storage group.

Then I go into System Manager and look at the Information Store, both the private and public are unmounted. To get eveything going again, all I have to do is mount the stores, and it's fine.

I have not had any luck with the errors above, and I can't pinpoint any time of day or routine that is setting this off. My only guess as to what might coincide with this problem is that a month ago I installed the trial GFI MailEssentials anti-spam software on the Exchange Server.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

i had some serious issues with an earlier version of mail essentials installed on the exchange.

either install it on another machine, or upgrade. the new version 9 has not made problems installed on the exchange.
