I have an Exchange 2003 running Service Pack 2 and I read a while back that the badmail folder can use up disk space if it is not cleaned up once in a while. The problem I am having is when i try to browse to the badmail folder from Windows Explorer I just get an hour glass any no files ever display... Do i need to shut down any exchange services to be able to view the contents of this folder?

I have even tried to right click and select properties and it does display anything.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the reply Mark.

I tried running that and I get a popup a little while after executing the badmailadmin script.

the message says:

ERROR: D:\Program Files\Exchsvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\BadMail: bytes total

Err.Number: 6
Err.Description: Overflow
Err.Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

I am going to investigate this error further... I wonder it this is happening because there is so much data in that folder?

Thanks again

Jon

drop to a CMD prompt, wander into that folder and del *.* (don't try to get a dir or you'll have the same issue)- then wait. And wait. And then wait some more. In fact, go get lunch.

SP2 removes the configuration that puts items in that folder, so you likely had a lot in there before you installed the SP. Cleaning it out should only be a one time issue.

delete the folder, then create a new one with the same name.

the good old command prompt saved the day... it looks like there was 1000's of messages in that folder... Thanks for all your help...
