Our SBS 2003 stopped reciving Mail this morning, I have check the event log. No errors also checked in to see if all the services are still running, thet are.

We can send mail out ok, but if some one from outside the domain tryes to send an E-mail it just gets bounced back.

Any one any idea's where I start?

What's the bounce back message?

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

This is the error I get if I try and send myself an E-mail from my hot mail account

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

Is that the complete error message? Are there any further details?

Thats all it says, sorry.

On doing a little digging I think I may know the cause.

We do not have a static IP so we use Dynamic DNS.
Our hosting company have updated the servers to tie in with Dynamic DNS so any mail sent to pennineplus.com gets forwarded to pennineadmin.co.uk which is our own onsite server. I have been looking at a ( Great site) now I may be reading the info wrong but I beleve that the mail seems to be pointing at there servers not ours.
I am new to this so If I am reading this wrong or am not giving you the infomation that you need please let me know.

Cheers

I think part of the problem is that you don't have a static address. Remote domains probably can't resolve your domain name to the IP address that their DNS servers had when mail was working. I know there was a free program out there that you can install on your servers for companies who didn't have a static IP and it would update it's DNS server whenever your IP address changed. Maybe you are using something similar. If I remember, I had some clients once that used it and when their dynamic IP changed, there would be some problems until the address change was relayed to all DNS servers.

I would say that if there is any way you could get a static address for your company, do it.

I have been using Dynamic DNS for over 6 months now and it has never failed me.

The way the system is set up is as follows.

Domain is resistered with out web hosting company.
They updated there DNS Servers so when anything was sent to mycompany.com it was redirected to the name space servers at Dynamic DNS that hold our updated IP address.
The mail then was forwarded to us, and it all worked fine.
Our IP is not staic but it has only changed about 5 times over the last 6 months (Sudo static??)

Has anyone used the site as I need to know how to read the data that it is telling me?

OK I think I have got It. When I run a mail test as provided by DNSSTUFF it says the host is apricot.infoserve.com,, ip address is not ours.

So I beleve that the people how re-direct our mail have messed up some where.

If this is the case I will be happy as my system did not mess up :)
