I am going to put a small Windows 2000 network into a buisness that is currently had DSL and is using AOL for e-mail.

If I put in SBS 2000 and I get them to register a domain name can I get their mail forwarded to them under the new domain name? How would I go about doing this? They would not have a company hosting a website right away, but would Network Solutions or someone else be able to point MX records to the static ip address (assuming they have one with DSL) of their server?

This is easy to do. It sounds like they don't want to do a whole lot with their external dns at this point, so they probably don't need to worry about managing it. There are many domain parking/DNS services out there that will do just that for them.

I would start by talking to their current ISP, as they are going to need a static, public IP address for routing e-mail to via their MX record. Many ISPs are willing to act as relays for their customers, which, in the event that their DSL line goes down, mail will held at the ISP until the DSL line and SBS server are available again.
