SMTP could not connect to any DNS server. Either none are configured, or
all are down.

SMTP could not connect to the DNS server 'XX.X.X.XX'. The protocol used was
'UDP'. It may be down or inaccessible.

It just started last night, no settings have changed anywhere on the network. The DNS servers are both up and running. I can resolve names using nslookup.

It doesn't appear that it is causing any problems, but I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.

Thanks, but I'm not pointing to an external DNS, it's already pointing to my internal DNS.

I'm working on a theory that someone is trying to send mail to a domain that exists, but has SMTP turned off.

if thats your theory, then test it :p

lets say the domain in question is worksucks.com

then do this
telnet worksucks.com 25

this will open a connection to the SMTP (port 25) of that domain to see if its even open and connecting to their smtp.

I already tried it, and the server is refusing connections. I'm just not sure that's what is causing the error message.
