We have an Exchange 2000 Server SP3 running on Windows 2000 Server SP3 on an IBM X-220 Server. The startup on the machine is horrible it takes sometimes 15 to 20 minutes before it is in working condition. All day long it runs with the hard drives "Disk Write Percentage at 100%" Is there any way to see what is using the disk? Is there any thing in particular that would cause this on an exchange server? We have about 100 users using Outlook 2002 between 8:30am and 5:00PM

Dose the server have RAID-5? A disk might need replacing. If one disk goes in a RAID-5 setup then the system still lives but at a much slower rate.

Cheers.

Check task manager to see if there is any other processes that are possibly consuming lots of processor time, its possible it could be somthing completly different causing the abnormaly hight disk access

disk writes could be caused by the page file - is it on that disk set? Is it the right size and have you got enough RAM for the kit? 100 users on Exchange, I'd recommend a minimum of 1GB RAM and preferably 2GB is it is doing anything else...

Exchange is a bit of a memory hog so Zelandakh is most likely be on the on the money.

After doing a little research to see the specs of the box you are dealing with, i would be a little woried.

The new Exchange 2000 server my company has is a duel PIII 1.4GHz, 1Gb RAM, 3 * 36 Gb 10 000 rpm SCSI disks connected to a Ultra 160 RAID-5 card. We only have 70 users but that is likely to triple in the next 3 years.

Goodluck.

I also think you should check any antivirus software you have running on the machine - that can play havoc with E2k!!
