We're running a windows 2000 domain with two servers. A pdc and a member server. I've installed exchange 2000 on the member server and created a test user in active directory and created the mailbox.
When i try to connect to the exchange server it says the name cannot be resolved. When i looked in the monitoring and status folder in system manager, it says the exchange server is unavailable and the status is critical. If you open the properties box, everything appears to be running, but when you close that box, the main screen has changed from critical to stopped. Looking in the services part of control panel, all the exchange services are runing.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what's going on or know what i have done wrong or not configured ?? My knowledge of exchange is very limited as you can probably tell, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Helen

have you had a look at the event logs on the Exchange box ?? might give us more of a clue what's going on

Life's too short

Make sure all the Exchange services are running... check the event logs as Bod29 suggests
