Exchange Backup Problems

Hi,

Yesterday I had to reinstall arcserve on our Exchange server in order to move it to another drive.
And (of course) it causes some problems.

I have installed arcserve 2000 WG and the exchange agent and immediatly upgraded it to SP5.
But now I can only make bricklevel backup of the exchange server. Backing up the information store is not an option in the backup manager.

Before the reinstall I could see (and backup):
MS Exchange Server
MS Information Store
MS Site Replication Service
MS Exchange Server - Brick level
in the backup manager

After reinstall I can only see:
MS Exchange Server
- which I cannot expand/choose/backup
MS Exchange Server - Brick level
- which I can backup without problems.

When I try to expand the MS Exchange Server the DBEXCH.log shows a connect and immediate disconnect.

I have tried to configure the Exchange Agent with the systems administrator account (as it was before the reinstall) and with a special created account as arcserve describes in the manual. But it makes no difference.

Does anyone have any idea of what I might be doing wrong or where I should look for more or anything?

Components:
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
MS Exchange Server 2000
Arcserve 2000 WG (v7.0) SP5 and Exchange agent SP5
Arcserve and agent are installed on the same server as the Exchange server.

Best regards
Lars

Dude

You need to apply service pack3 to this Arcserve box before you can view the information store through the selections window. Don't ask why Arcserve service packs are not cumulative but they're it would seem

apply service pack 3 from and the 4 and 5 and you'll be fine.

I had the same problem this wednesday

Hi Dude,

Thanks alot. I will try that.
The thought had crossed my mind, but then again "of course the servicepacks are cumulative!" But apparantly I was wrong.

Merry Christmas.

Lars

Service packs are cumulative, there is no need to apply SP3, then SP4, then SP5.

SP5 on top of a new install should work the same as applying the three one after the other.

Finally I had the possibility to try the tip, and it did work!

It seems that the servicepacks are not that cumulative.
