I am running exchange 5.5 on a NT 4.0 box. There is a remote site that will soon be joining our network. My original plan was to have them purchase a router and connect over a WAN link. This was ready to go until a few days ago when we found out funding could be a problem. I am looking for an alternative.
I have our exchange set up so users can login through our web site and access their email from home. I thought this would be a perfectly fine alternative until the remote site can find some funding.
Durng the meeting a know-it-all was just going on and on about how we shouldn't go through a web page but stay with access through software. It's being suggested that we reconfigure the user's outlook mail support and change it from an exchange account to an internet account. I explained this wouldn't work but the know-it-all assured me it was and that was how he got his email from his previous employer.
Is there a way to have our remote clients access our exchange server using outlook configured as an internet account?
