Exchange 5.5 Transfer Agent Service

My Exchange 5.5 Transfer Agent Service stops. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? It will restart and will usually run somewhere between 4 hours and 3 days before stopping again. If I reboot the Exchange server, it seems to lenghten the stoppage gaps. Is there a way to be able to reboot this server and start the service remotely until I can get the problem fixed?

Any events in the application log for when the MTA stops? If not, have you increased MTA logging?
