I need to upgrade from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003.
We have four domain controllers and three different domains all running on Windows 2000. There are users on three domains with mailboxes linked to users in three domains as well.
As of now , I need to install exchange 2003 and move the users from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003 and leave windows 2000 domain as is.
I have found a lot of articles that talk about migration from 5.5 to 2003 on windows NT domain and also upgrading the domain controllers as well but not where domain controller is windows 2000.
Please advice /suggest how i could acomplish this
thanks

Exchange 2003 will run okay on Windows 2000, so long as it's SP3.

A couple of questions about your network configuration first ?

1. You have 4 Windows 2000 Domain controllers and 3 domains. I guess that means you have one root domain (probably with two DC) and two child domains (one DC at each domain) all of them running in Windows 2000 native mode (no NT 4.0 BDC-s left) – please correct me if that assumption is wrong.
2. How many AD sites do you have and what is the connection speed between them?
3. How many Exchange 5.5 servers do you have – if more than one, how many Exchange Sites?
4. How many users and what is the size of the Exchange 5.5 databases?

I am performing E55 migrations almost every week and all I can say is that
depending on you configuration the Exchange 5.5 migration can be pretty straightforward or more complex?
