Is there a way to run Exchange 5.5 on
Windows 2000?

Thanks,

Oh yes indeedy. Simply run the SETUP.EXE from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, Add New Programs, CD or Floppy button. Ignore the message that says it is incompatible and keep going. After the install apply at least SP3 to make the datbases and directory stuff Windows 2000 aware. Then ru the optimiser after SP3 or higher is installed. Even if you have run the optimiser prior, do it again for good measure after SP3.

No problems...err, not many anyway...I'm using this combination in a few sites and it works fine...haven't resorted to Exch5.5-SP4 yet...too scared...

I love Microsoft's esteemed wisdom.
"Ignore when it says incompatible"

Thanks.

I found that you need to install from the BackOffice Resource kit CD. The Exchange Server Enterprise CD steadfastly refused to install. You also need to upgrade to Service Pack 4 to get the WebOutlook stuff to work.

Microsoft has a "grey paper" on it but they tell you to install Site Server 3 and SQL 7 and a bunch of other stuff you don't need.

Remember when you get it going you need to supply just your login name at the pretty splash screen but when it asks for password credentials you need to supply them in the format

Logon: DOMAIN\username
Password: password

have fun

OWA works under SP2 (but it is not great), works well under SP3.

I use SP4 and Exchange is great.

To install Exchange 5.5 admin or server on win2k you need to have the service "Remote Registry service" enabled. After you install you can shut down the service.
