I have been reviewing the FAQs and posts regarding moving Exchange 5.5 from one server to another. I have one last question that I can't find the answer to. All of the posts and information on this site seems to be dealing with moving Exchange 5.5 from an NT server to another NT server or from a 2000 server to another 2000 server. My situation calls for moving from an NT server to a 2000 server. Can this be done or should I upgrade the NT server first? If anyone has had a similar situation please let me know. Any information would be appreciated.

Matt

As far as I understand, the NT/2000 part doesn't matter when you are running exchange 5.5 Your situation would be no different then moving 5.5 to another NT box. Setup the windows 2000 box, install Exchange 5.5 and move your mailboxes. Make sure you propely remove the old exchange server from your network and the new exchange server before you shut it down. And one very valuable piece of advice, DO NOT blow the old server away for at least a few weeks. A problem may arise where your only choice may be to bring the old server online to fix it and these problems sometimes crop up a few days to weeks after a new server is put into production.
