Hello, I have an exchange 5.5 server which is backed up daily by Arcserve. I am running out of space due to logs in the imcdata\logs dir. I have several logs that look like L000000, L000001 etc. but the l000000 is 1.5 GB in size. I have read articles that say if you do an ntbackup this will purge the logfile however I dont have a tape device on this server so nt backup isnt playing nice. Any ideas besides the Exchange optimizer to purge / truncate these logs. thanks

in arcserve you need to commit the log files which will bring them down.

Zelandakh,
I have looked around in brightstor manager and looked on ca's web site. Where do I setup the exchange box to commit log files? I can't find it. Thanks

I looked further and found taht if you run a 'FULL' backup it should truncate the log files. The problem is that we are doing a full backup. I should also say that these arent the edb.log this is in the dir
\exchsrvr\imcdata\log
filename: L0000000.log
any ideas let me know.
thanks
jdl

You need to lower the diagnostic logging level for the SMTP Protocol. You'll find this on the Diagnostics Logging tab of the Internet Mail Service properties. Set the level to either minimum or none. You can then delete the log files, as they are only used for troubleshooting. Do not delete the route.txt file.

Excellent, that did it I had logging set high on a few options and the full online backup wasnt truncating the log. I turned off the logging in the IMS properties and I'm gold. Thanks everyone
