I will try to explain myself as best as I can.

Can Exchange server 5.5(NT4) run co-existent on a 2000 domain(mixed)?

We want to use our exchange 5.5 until we are ready to upgrade to Exchange 2000. At that time we will do it from scratch.

The thing is we don't want to install any connectors in 5.5, nor do we want 5.5 to use AD in any way. We simply want it to work how it is now, using its own directory etc. Will we be ok? Are there any secrets/tips or tricks? Do you know of a site to support this behavior?

what about user accounts? I mean is there going to be some kind of mapping between the AD and the Exchange DB ?

exchange 5.5 "maps" the user accounts out of AD in the same manner it did with NT4, User Manager style. No extra mappings needed.
