my company currently has our email and web page hosted externally.

due to problems with email, i am moving the email to our exchange 2k server. but i have a couple of questions...

liscencing: i have 20 liscences and its per server right now. i want to switch it over to per seat to solve issues w/ people using multiple liscences. when i do the switch, do i need actual product id/key codes? also will it ask where i want to assign the liscences to?

mx record: obviously ill need to have it repointed to my ip. but who do i talk to to get it repointed?

thanks all.

What do you have 20 licenses for exactly? Are they CAL's for W2K Server? or CAL's for Exchange? You'll need a separate CAL for each type of access (file server/exchange server). No, you don't have to enter any license information on your license server, that's just there to help you keep track and stay legal.

You need to contact your ISP, or whomever is responsible for your domain name, and have them change the MX record.

Are they CAL's for W2K Server? or CAL's for Exchange?

under liscencing purchase history, it says i have 20 for ex2k server.. so im taking it that they are for exchange..

so all i need to is click the per seat and im done?

the reason i want to switch to per seat... ive got about 30 employees, but only 15-16 of them have external e-mail accounts and or a need for email. ive got one employee for some reason ends up with 12 liscences, and she doesnt even have a external company email address.

oh, for internal e-mail for everyone in the company, i will need liscenses for everyone then, right?

sorry for the silly questions, but i dont know a thing about ex2k.

im not a network admin, but i get to play one at work!
