Hi, I have implemented Exchange 2007 into a brand new AD 2003 domain. There's a CCR cluster and 2 Hub Transport/Client Access servers, all running Forefront for Exchange anti-virus software. So far there are no users apart from a couple of service accounts that are mail enabled.

The issue is this: log files are being generated by the storage group every 2 minutes. This seems a little high for a system with no active users. There shouldn't be any transactions being created as there are no accounts actively generating messages at this stage. What could be causing it? What is the norm for Exchange 2007 with no users?

Thanks,
Cam.

None, or practically none. You've got something bad going on there. What HT rules are there? Any anti virus scanning more than it should (in terms of folders?)
What are the logs doing, are they public folder replication, node1 to node2 CCR traffic or somewhere to node1? I know you said you had no mail on it but something's on there.

We have one Hub Transport rule enabled which is a jounaling rule, capturing all emails in the environment. At the moment this mailbox has less than 20 messages. The logs dir is approx 4GB but the actual data base is only 12MB. Could it be that the CCR is generating empty log files? There's nothing in the event logs indicating any probs, all looks normal. There is a public folder store whose logs total 1.7GB with a database 10MB in size.

Just as I write this, i've noticed it hasn't generated a log for the last hour, which was when I went in a sent a test message. Maybe something happened days ago and sending an email has fixed it. Will post again today with an update...

Hmmm, seems to have quientened down now since I sent the email this morning. Haven't had a log since 10am, so looks to have righted itself. Gotta love those problems that appear for no reason and disappear for even less.
