We would like to setup our corporate email. We want to use Exchange 2003. My question is, can we configure an Exchange 2003 server in our DMZ as a SMTP host relay, so this server will basically relay the emails to our internal Exchange 2003 server and then on to our SMTP clients (Outlook xp)?

How does everyone else have their corperate email setup?

The quick answer is yes to all. You really don't need to have an Exchange server in your DMZ if you don't want to, but it can easily be done that way. Most companies I know just set up a rule on their Firewall to forward all SMTP traffic to their "internal" email server.

Thanks Koonan. If I don't put one in the DMZ, is there a security risk?

I forgot to mention but I'm sure you assumed that we will be recieving email from the outside (Other domains)...
