I am having a problem moving mailboxes to a new exchange 2000 server. Here is our setup:

I have an older Exchange 2000 server SP3. AD services is running on a separate server. I have installed Exchange 2000 on a new server and patched to SP3. I am testing moving mailboxes from the old one to the new one using AD Users and Computers, and the move works OK. Plus, Outlook automatically updates the profile to point to the mailbox on the new server. On the first few tests, I created the test user with mailbox on the old server, then moved the mailbox to the new email server, then tested sending/receiving from the test account and all worked OK.

So, I decided to move a couple users, including my own mailbox, and the move went OK. But, after the move, I was unable to send or receive mail. When I sent mail, it would sit in my outbox. How aggravating because my test users worked OK. So, I went back to testing, and after conducting the original test scenario, I can't send/receive email from those accounts either after moving! Moving the mailbox back to the old server would resolve the problem.

I will eventually be taking the old server off line - but I'm now nervous of this problem when I go to move all users. Is there something I am missing?

hey there,

I am also interested in upgrading the exchange 2000 box to another machine by using the MOVE method.

what error messages have you got? that may give you some clue.

cheers,

I haven't gotten any error messages, thats the problem. No errors in the event log, no other error messages displayed. I used the message tracker to try to track the messages that weren't delivered, but this provided no useful information as well.
