We upgraded to Exchange 2000 a while ago, and have been having this wierd problem ever since. Heres how our exchange is setup.
Everyone has a local exchange account. Certain people have internet email. Those people have two accounts setup in outlook - once for the exchange server and one for the POP3 for our ISP.
For those people with two accounts, there is an option in each message under an accounts menu (as a button) as to which account they want to use to send it - if they are sending locally they have to choose the exchange server, if sending to the internet they have have to choose the internet account. If they choose the exchange server and its an internet address, it just bounces after about a day.
My question is, what would be the best way to setup exchange to solve this problem? Exchange 5.5 didn't care, if it couldn't send the email locally it would automatically send it out to the internet, it seems 2000 is more picky. We have a static IP with an ISA server installed.
Ideally, I'd like to just have exchange "know" what to do with an email - if its a local address it sends it locally, if its an internet address it sends it out to our ISP's mail server (without the user having to choose the right account locally on their computer). I really don't want to change our MX record for our domain to point the email to our server.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Patrick
