Using Exchange 2000, SBS 2000 our company relies heavily on
distribution lists used in Outlook 2000.

Since our server upgrade in March, we have certain IP addresses within
the Distribution Lists, that come back with "Relaying Denied", #5.7.1
smtp;550 5.7.1 error.

IF you check the check box to allow relaying in the Exchange System Manager/DefaultSMTP Virtual Server Properties/Relay Restrictions
"allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay
regardless of the list above", Then the Distribution Lists will work.

HOWEVER our Network support company says "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
SHOULD YOU CHECK THAT BOX". (security risk, is their reason)
Yet, with out it I cannot get the Distribution Lists to work.(and neither can they)

This is the First network I have ever supported (please be kind!) If
someone could explain to me what is going on, and can I get my
Distribution Lists to work, with out that check box? Is there another
way. This is driving us nuts, and NO ONE has had an answer. Thank you.

What they say is true, and so is what you say.
You were actually correct with that check box, sadly, it needs to be checked if you want to relay internally.
You should however add the IP addresses or range to the allowed list.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
