Can Exchange server standard or enterprise be installed on a Small Business Server or does this need to be a separate server? (im assuming separate here)

Much like an acdditional Windows Server would be required for additional services rather than SBS...

hope you can help! :)

but arent there limitation on exactly what exchange server can do?

we need to "upgrade" to allow for 80-100 users and i was under the impression that SBS only allows for 75 users?

any ideas on what the next best step is? sounds more like a SBS limitation than an exchange one, so do we simply upgrade sbs2003 to full windows 2003, and retire SBS so no further limitations exist, or because its an SBS domain, will these limitations contonue to apply to any server thats added to the sbs domain?

thanks for your quick reply! and sorry for the dumb questions, but this isnt something i have had to go over before.. :)

That's an SBS limitation - not an Exchange limitation. You'd need to completely move to a non-SBS solution.

You can get a transition pack from Microsoft to aid in moving to a non-SBS solution. It's generally the cheapest way.

so provided we essentially separate the services, active directory, exchange etc and then retire SBS2003, no dramas?

IE, install W2K3Std, as domain controller, give it the FSMO's, move exchange, to new exchange server, retire old SBS server.

Use the transition licences for upgrade...

THat simple? im impressed unless i have it wrong? :)

and your always so helpful Pat, in all pists that involve M$ so a star for you mate. thanks again

It was obvious i mean posts in the "last post", but apologies anyway...

That's somewhat similar to a swing migration. There are some tools that assist with that, such as that are designed for moving from one SBS box to another, but involve a middle server temporarily. Those tools might help.

There is also a thread around here, thread96-1244864 that details some of the things that might help.
