exch 2k brick level job will not finish and no error message

Windows 2000 Exchange 2000 sp3, arcserver 2000 sp3.
It was working fine until rencently, the job will not finish or show any message, back up job will keep active until the exchange agent are stopped manuly.
Can't figury out why.
any one have same experence?

What kind of backup, brick level or database (IS)? Have you checked the log to make sure no errors occurred?

Brick level backup, I checked the log, no error.
The problem is that the job hung there and will not continue to backup other regular stuff. I have to stop the exchange agent and then I got some errors say the mail box is not accessable, then the job continue on. the over night job last like 10 hours until in the next morning when I check it.

Start with upgrading to Sp5 for both ARcserve and the Exchange Agent

Applying the latest service pack is a good idea.

Also check to see what mailbox it is failing or hanging on. Is there something special about this one? Was it deleted recently? Exchange will keep deleted mailboxes for some time before they are purged. This can cause backup errors.
