We have Excel 2000. My users have roaming profiles on the network. we received an email from a trusted source with an excel file in it. I opened it and no problem. later on we tried to open it again to view it again and excell froze on the splash screen and we haven't been able to re-open excel since that emailed file. I've tested for viruses and found none. Also when the user logs in on another machine, she can't open Excel, but when the orignal user logs in to the same mahine, we can open excel and the file, with no problem. I tried also the Microsoft suggestions on the knowledge base, and still have nothing.

does anyone know how to fix this issue

Thanks in advnance

Almost without question i would say that that was due to a corrupted *.xlb file, especially given that that it is one of the few files that is peculiar to the profile, and is also prone to corruption, so the fact that others are OK would certainly lean me that way.

Search for *.xlb in that profile, rename it and then relaunch excel. It is the toolbar customisation file so any changes to this will have been lost. Excel will just create a new one for you.

dcompto hit it on the nail and KenWright just reinforced it. That was my problem. The .xlb files must have been corrupted.

Thanks again fellas

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have seen this question raised in this forum - I even asked it myself!!!

Maybe someone would care to write the FAQ for it?
