I have Windows 2000 Pro and recently installed Office 2000. Everything worked fine until I installed Groupwise 5.5, I removed it the same day and since then since then when I try to do a "save as" or a normal save, I get the "Cannot find GWXL97.XLA file". If I close Excel using the "X" it will ask me if I want to save and by saying yes I can at least save that way. I put a copy of GWXL97.XLA in the root but that didn't help.
I did not re-install Groupwise 5.5 since my company has abandoned it. I have tried to reinstall Office 2000 both as a repair and a full re-install.
Does anyone have have any ideas? %-)

DrJorde,

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem? I tried what the novell site said, but it didn't work...

Tks in advance...

Search for GWXL97.xla and delete it.
Search for *.XLB files and delete them.
Re-start Excel with the /s parameter to reset Excel
I found this through a search on google.

It has been so long since I finally fixed it I'm not sure if I can relate the solution that I used to you now.
I believe I did the search for GWXL97.xla and deleted it. That alone did not fix it. Something in Excel had been corrupted by Groupwise and I had to reset a toolbar.
This memo from Novel support rings a bell.
"In Excel reset the Worksheet Menu Bar by going to View | Toolbars | Customize... then select "Worksheet Menu Bar" and hit Reset... This screen also shows a "Standard" toolbar which sometimes must also be reset."
Thanks to everyone for your help and if you have a similar situation try the reset trick.

I had the same problem on a user's PC where I work. The solution is in the Microsoft Knowledgebase. It's article Q327856. Follow the steps in it (it requires editing the Registry). That solved the problem for our user.

To get into the Microsoft Knowledgebase:
Go to Click "Support" - "Knowledgebase".
Type "gwxl97.xla" in the text box for "Search Knowledgebase for" (it's near the top left).
Click on the button to start the search.
3 articles will be found. The one here is the top-most article.
