I am having a weird issue with Microsoft Excel 2003. When I open an excel document from our intranet the data doesn't appear until I highlight the data. then the information that appears is that which was highlighted. I have been trying to research this issue but with no result. It isn't that big of a problem to me but one of the Partners of our firm seems to think that it is a huge problem for them. Just one additional piece of information. If I open up the document by browsing to it, it opens fine. This seems to only happen when it is opened up through internet explorer. And it is opening up as a .xls like it should.

After it is highlighted. you can move focus away and the information is visible. The data does not have to remain highlighted to be visible. It just has to be highlighted once to appear after that the page is workable. Thanks for the quick reponse though. Very much appreciated!

You could have the file open in Excel rather than in IE:

Well that didn't do it. I checked and the PC's having the problem are all setup to open the appropriate program. Thanks for the continued help.

Open the file on the intranet and tell us exactly what appears in the title bar (blue bar at very top of file).

That is still not it. My pc opens it in the IE window with no problems. (it does use excel as the editor) The affected PC also has all of the configurations setup correctly. The problem is that the document is opened (yes, inside an IE window) but is opened as a .xls file. The data is just not visible until after the first time you highlight it. The same thing goes with the worksheet tabs at the bottom. When I click on the area where they should be, up comes all of the tabs, and then they stay visible and usable. Then I have to highlight over all of the data. after that the document is workable just like nothing is wrong. If I go under tools|folder options|file types| registered file types .xls is set to open with Excel

xlhelp. not exactly sure where to go with that one. I appreciate the response.
