Hello experts,

Does anyone know if it is possible to include a ruled line to separate Excel headers/footers from the "body" of the document? This is easy in Word, by using the drawing tools in the header and footer, but I cannot see a way to achieve it in Excel.

Many thanks.

hello

theres probably a different way to do this, but this quick and easy way has worked for me in the past

you can set the heading row of whatever sheet to be the header in Page Setup -> Sheet -> Rows to Repeat at top. so long as you make sure that row has an underline it can imitate a top line. You can also use drawing tools to draw a line and include that to repeat at the top of each page

OR

you can go to Page Setup-> Header/Footer -> Custom Header -> and in the Center section click the "A" button and select "Single Underline". then fill the Center box with the space bar or the underscore character. You might have to play with it a bit depending how many spaces/how wide you want the line. (you can use this method for the footer as well)

might not necessarily have been the ideal answer you were looking for, but at least theres a ruling line in the header and footer now

hope that gets you started

Thanks fraiNbreeze. The first option is a no-go as the heading row repeat is already being used. The second option is exactly what I need, and it goes to prove that it is easy to overlook a straightforward solution while trying to find a complicated answer!

Cheers, have a star...
