Excel reference formula

So I got a database of baseball players with values, and in another excel file I have a list of their teams. I would like to cross reference each as follows.

If I look up Mets and I get Mike Piazza in cell B1, I want to enter his value in say B2 referenced from the other file. This would save me as I have 2300+ in the fle listed alphabetically.
