Does anyone know how to make a "Bar of Pie" sub-type pie chart in Excel? I just don't know how to set up the data for this.

Thank you in advance for any help,

Julia

Julia,

I believe this is the answer you're looking for...

The following steps and data are for my example. You'll naturally need to modify the ranges for your actual data.

1) First, here's the data...
Labels: A1: One, A2: Two, A3: Three_1, A4: Three_2, A5: Three_3

Numbers: B1: 12, B2: 15, B3: 20, B4: 10, B5: 5

By this example, I hope you can see that the last 3 numbers are a sub-set of the label "Three" (which will show a total of 35 on the pie). The 20,10,5 values will show on the Bar.

2) Double-click on the "Bar" of the "Bar of Pie" chart.

3) Click on the "Options" tab

4) Specify: "Split Series by: Position"

5) Specify: "Second plot contains the last "3" values.

(Naturally change the number of values to match with the number of values in your sub-set.)

You can of course modify the other options found in the "Format Data Series" window... i.e.
a) Size of Second Plot
b) Gap width
c) Series lines
d) Vary colors by slice.

After changing the colors in this window, you still have the option of changing the individual colors of the bar "separately" - i.e. once you close out of the "Format Data Series" window. Simply click once on the (entire) Bar, and then click a second time on one of the (stacked) bars.

I hope this helps :) Please advise as to how you make out.

If you encounter any difficulties, I can always email you the example file.

Dale,

Your example worked like a charm. You have helped me and another person in my office by your examples and explanations.
