I would like to set up a spreadsheet to list inventory items. I would also like to include a picture of each item. However, pictures take a lot of space and make a spreadsheet rather lengthy. One idea to save space would be to set up a cell where a picture will pop up when you click on that cell. This way each inventory item would consume only one line on the spreadsheet. Anyone know how to set up a cell to pop up a picture? Any other ideas to insert pictures and still keep the spreadsheet short?

Thanks, Gene

Couldn't use just create a hyperlink to the pictures stored elsewhere?

Thanks for the idea. That helps a lot. One issue with this approach is that this inventory spreadsheet will be distributed to salesmen for them to carry in thier laptops. They will not have internet access while making sales calls, so I will have to develop a method of quickly editing the Hyperlinks when the spreadsheet is copied thier machines. Any ideas on this will be appreciated.

hello

if there is going to be a local copy of each image on the laptops, you can enter each image as:

file:///c:\inventorypictures\test1.jpg

this will make it appear as a hyperlink in excel and when you click on it whatever program is associated to view that image extension will pop up and open it.

an easy way to change all the links when they are put on the laptops is to do a find & replace to the appropriate folder locally. another idea would be to just burn it to CD and that way everything remains referenced from the CD.

hope that helps

Just store the images on the local C drive of each laptop. I guess having a master folder somewhere with all the images in and then they can copy the latest version of that to the laptop along with the Excel file.

I make this work.

Thanks for your help.
