When i double click on an excel file excel opens one book (book1) and puts it in the task bar and then opens the file that I wanted.

I have been into tools, options, view and un-ticked window in task bar. Which gets rid of the issue but means that i have to go to window and select the other file I want?

Any Ideas?

Is the file a workbook or workspace? Also, what version of Excel are you using?

Excel 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1) It is a workbook.

try checking the XL start folder to see if there is a "book" file stored there. If so, it is generating an extra blank file whenever Excel starts. It should be empty.
