Excel opens in Internet Exlporer

Platform being used, Win 2000Pro, XL2K, IE6.

I have a hyperlink in a webpage that opens excel spreadsheet that opens in the IE6 embedded excel envionment.

NOTE 1: It is possible to change this setting so that the spreadsheet opens in Excel rather than an embedded environment if you go to ...

[My Computer]...[Tools]...[Folder Options]...[File Types]...[XLS]...[Advanced]...[Actions-OPEN]... then deselect the Browse in Same window.

QUESTION : What I want is to maybe open a blank workbook that checks the above setting, if it is found to be selected then it must deselect the box then once completed opens a second workbook in Excel.

Send your answers on a smelly fish to me and I will pass them on to the IT dept who decided this faggot brained setup to begin with.

PS I have considered getting the IT Dept to roll out a fix to all users, however this is only relevant to a small number of users.

I would suggest that it would be FAR easier to roll out the fix than to code what you are asking for - you would need to get into Registry edits and API calls...
