Hi Everyone,

I have recently purchased a OJ4215. When it was installed on a Win2k with Office 2k using usb, some, but not all, multiple page excel documents only print the first page, then come back with a communication error. All other programs (ie word and adobe) seem to print fine, and the xls files print fine to a networked printer.

I have gone through all of HP's support including "power cycling" the printer and updating the drivers, but the problem will not go away. I also know that the file(s) printed fine on an HP 5650 installed on this computer previous to the 4215, and if you print each page separately, there is no issue.

Any auggestions?

Hi rongnp,

If you have upgraded the drivers, one other thing to try is to uninstall/reinstall office.

Before going there, what exactly is the communication error?

Are you using post script drivers or PCL?

Regards,

Peter

Thanks for the quick reply Peter!

The computer is actually a laptop which I do not have with me at the moment, so I cannot give you the error exactly, but there was nothing really specific in it. It just says there is a communication error on USB001, and stops printing about a third of the way through the page with the error message going away on its own shortly thereafter. Two things I forgot to mention in my original post: 1) if I change part of the data in the spreadsheet, for some reason it will print but it won't print with the proper calculation and 2) I did try low mem mode on the printer and had the same problem.

An Addendum:

We've now had the same error when printing a multiple page document in Word. The first doc printed fine, the second had the same communication error, then printed fine when both pages were printed individually.

Hi again,

It is a strange one. I would suggest an uninstall/reinstall of USB on the system, using the latest drivers.

One other thing to check is whether or not there is a firmware upgrade available for the product.
Sometimes when a (new) product experiences similar problems time & again they will actually patch the firmware.

Good luck with finding a solution.

Peter
