Numeric data is coming in as text from from a lotus notes view. How do I define the data as numeric?

If you run the same select statment directly from excel via ODBC (taking Crystal out of the equation) does the numeric data come across as text? What datatype is the column in Lotus Notes?

I am not using Crystal Report. I am accessing the Lotus Notes directly. I have already checked the field type in the Lotus database is numeric.

PS I am using Office XP with Windows 2000

:)
