Hi,

Excel labels in reports are breaking strangely. For instance, the word "Threshold" breaks like this (without the hyphen) "Thresho-ld" with "ld" moving to the next line. Is there any way I can adjust things to keep it on the same line or hyphenate it properly?

Thank you,
Henry

Increase column width

or under Format, Cells, Alignement, choose Shrink to Fit.

Using this option, sometimes the text becomes too small to read.

Here is some more information on the problem: This is happening in an Excel chart with the following category labels(in order): March 2007 YTD, Threshold, Target, Outstanding.

When "March 2007 YTD" appears on one line, the rest of the labels appear correctly. When I put a line break between "March" and "2007 YTD", the "ld" in "Threshold" is pushed to a new line and the "ing" in "Outstanding" is pushed to a new line. "Target" remains unchanged.

Up to this point, the temporary solution has been to put leading spaces before "March 2007 YTD" (with no line break) so that it wraps and appears on two lines.

Changing column widths and word wrap properties have not had any effect on this problem.

LTUJoe,

How do you know what HenryAnthony's problems are?

Are you the same guy?

Try AutoFit on the columns.

Skip,

Joe is my cube neighbor. I suggested he try tek-tips and decided to post the question for him.

Thanks for your reply,

The problem has been solved. I neglected to mention that this is a stacked column chart, which is relevant to the solution.

The x axis labels are: 2005, 2006, Threshold, Target, Outstanding.

The chart is designed to display the total of three series, let's say apples, oranges, and bananas, for example. Each stacked column shows the number of apples, oranges, and bananas, as well as the total pieces of fruit for the years 2005 and 2006. The Threshold, Target, and Outstanding don't show a breakdown of apples, oranges, and bananas, but instead show one number for the total - regardless of the composition. The label problem would only manifest when the "total" values for Threshold, Target, and Outstanding were part of the third series (bananas). The problem did not manifest when I made the "total" values part of the first series (apples).
