I have a spreadsheet that I can no longer open and it's crucial that I get this back.

Every time I try to open it I get the following error:

Program errors:
EXCEL.exe has generated errors & will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

I've been unable to locate the error log. Does anyone know where it is or how I can restore this file?

Thanks a bunch. :)

Laura.

Are you running Norton Antivirus 2000 or better?
If so, turn off the Office plug-in:

To disable the NAV Microsoft Office plug-in:

1. Close Microsoft Office if it is running.
2. Start NAV.
3. Click Options, and then click Miscellaneous.
4. Uncheck the Enable Office plug-in entry located under "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected."
5. Click OK.

It's been known to cause this phenom. Post back if not applicable...

We have NAV 2000 Corporate edition. There is no "option" available on the menu. I've checked everywhere. Should I just disable it?

Try it and see if the problem persists.

I don't have access to disable it. I've contacted our network people to do that for me. Apparently the options are locked for the users. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your help.

Laura, if it is a corrupt spreadsheet then you have two real options to try and recover it:-

1) Try and get someone with a copy of Excel 2002 to open it using the 'Open and repair' option.

2) Try opening it with OpenOffice.Calc which is part of the free office suite OpenOffice, available free as a 50MB download from - It has opened many an excel file that Excel cannot open.

Failing that, if it is not some monster file, you are more than welcome to send it on down to me if you are able and i will try and open it with both of these for you.
