Excel DDE link with Word

Using Office 2000

Using Word and Excel, got a spreadsheet in Excel that is link to a mail merge document in Word. Document has been working fine but all of a sudden Word is throwing a message stating that DDE commands are not available. After a short period Word then throws another message stating that it has taken too long to complete the command.

Anyone help with this? Office Help is pretty crap when it comes to DDE Commands.

Ps - Before anyone asks, I have tried re-installing Office

Is it posible to include a little more info. Exact wording of the errors would help.
