Hello everybody.
I am having some trouble formating my worksheet and I am wondering if there is a way to do what I want. Can I have a worksheet with varying colum widths? or example, I need A1:A15 to be at a width of 25 and A16:A25 to be at a width of 15. Can this be done? I am trying to convert a printed form into a worksheet that can be entered electronically and I want it to be in the same format. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

JASON

An Excel column can only have one width. Having said that, there are many ways of making adjacent columns look like a single column.

Hey pbrodsky.
how do you suggest I go about this? perhaps you know of some links or could give me a couple tips.

JASON

Try this:

Make Column A 15 and Column B 10

Merge A1 with B1, A2 with B2, and so on until you get to A15 with B15.

Now you will have A1:A15 as 25 and A16 on as 15

You cannot change the width of ONE column. However, you can take two columns, and merge SOME of the cells.

So, A1:A15 would really be A1:B15, and each rows two cells are merged. Then, A16:A25 would be 15 wide, and B16:B25 would be 10 wide.

How many numbers are you adding up that you need to do this in Excel instead of Word?

Way cool stuff:

It's difficult to be specific without more information. You can hide the gridlines and use cell borders to create boxes. You can use empty narrow columns to create extra spacing, etc. It may be difficult to end up with all the input fields in a single column. Make sure that the columns where people will actually enter data are wide enough.

I'm gonna play around with some of these methods. thanks to everybody who replied!
