This (I am sure is pretty basic but...)I have created a spreadsheet using Excel 2007. I have for example a row called petrol. The columns are all months of the year. I put a figure into the column then later on I have to add another figure into the same column. Is there any quick way of making it "=sum" at the start of the row? Eg I type in $40 then later in the same month I have to add another figure of say $60 then I have to go up to the formula line and type in before the $40 =sum($40+60). Is there any quick way of doing this?

Cheers

If you know that you are going to be adding to cell entry, then start it off as a formula, by entering =40

Then, when you need to add to it you simply go into Edit mode, and type
+60
( and Enter ), to give
=40+60

Cheers, Glenn.

debful,

You make the mistake that many spreadsheet users make -- there is a difference between how you STORE data and how you DISPLAY or REPORT data.

"I type in $40 then later in the same month I have to add another figure of say $60"
[tt]
Typical Storage Design:
Item TransactionDate TransactionAmount

petrol 12/24/2007 40
deicer 12/24/2007 12
petrol 12/28/2007 60
[/tt]
Then use a PivotTable to summarize by the month.
