Hi

I have several users reporting that excel XP is slow to shutdown after they end the program. The users have newly loaded win XP with office XP and the Office XP SP-1. The user will click the X to close excel and the program just sits there for 15-50 seconds before it actually closes. No debuger comes up and the spreadsheet closes fine with out error -- it just takes a while.

The excel spreadsheets can be saved before closing and it has no effect. The users are connecting to an NT server for their users files.

Any ideas ??? Anyone seen this before?

Thanks

Charles

We have the same problem with Office XP SBE on Windows XP on our 2000 AD domain... Interestingly enough, the SP1 for Office doesn't seem to help, or hurt. The problem exists on both. I CAN tell you we are running Dell Optiplex GX240 machines. However, we are running Dell Optiplex GX150 machines (P3), and Windows 2000 with SP2 (as well as Office XP SBE), and these machines do not have a problem.
I spent about 4 hours with tech Dell Advanced Business Customer Software support yesterday, and they blame the network (go figure, we only have 40 users, with 100 Switched to the desktop, and Gigabit backbone - needless to say I think they are in error).
Closing when the files are local IS fast. On the network, it is slow. Again, the 2000 machines are fine. I want to blame the QoS packet scheduler, I removed it from the stack, but I am told that doesn't really "remove" it. I am deeply concerned about this.
I run an AMD XP, Office XP machine at home, on a 3 computer 2000 AD domain, and this machine does NOT exhibit this problem. I am almost ready to blame Dell hardware.
Question for you... What hardware are you running as your desktops?

Well, I found a little problem with my systems... Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Ed 7.5, does not like ANY office XP application on Windows XP (even though it is patched to run on this platform). The macro virus protection is the culprit. Corporate Norton AV 7.6 is out, and likely does not have this problem. However I thought you would like to know that was the problem on my systems.
My temporary fix, was to change my setting to scan ALL files, to scan "selected types," and that seems to fix the slow to close issue. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

I have Norton 7.6 Corp and have it set to scan: file types All, I will change it to: Selected extensions, but one of the selected extensions is XL?, is this still working as a fix for you?

Thanks for the info.

Hello, we have the same problem here (XP, Office XP, NT Server) -- I posted about 8 months ago (thread68-367659 and didn't get it resolved. I 'know' it's not network related.......same PC (XP desktop, Office 2000) did not have this problem until I upgraded it to Office XP. I am running NAV Corp. Ed 7.6 also.

HOWEVER, I did fix it for my PC!!! Problem is, I can't remember what I did! I think it was some registry hack that I had my doubts would work, and then got busy here and forgot about the problem! I just checked my NAV, and it still has 'all files' turned on, so that wasn't it for me.

My users don't like it when I say...."it works fine for me"

Any other ideas?
