When entering information into a cell in Excel 2002 the cell format changes to and displays an arabic date. This does not occur in Excel 2000 or Excel 97.

Cell entry: A11/8
results in: 1/10/2003 in arabic.

A workaround is to force the entry into text mode by using the apostrophe (eg, 'A11/8).

Does anyone know what is happening or how to stop this behavior?
