Hello Again,

In case I cannot get this abend fixed I have a really interesting question:

Can I create a NEW server EXACTLY as the old server from scratch and then transfer all of the User information, Printer setups, etc to the new machine? Or is it impossible?

I figure if I need to do this and we have the Novell guy here tomorrow then I could get started on this today and when he comes tomorrow just copy over the needed info.

I know this sounds like a goofy question, but if it is possible I would be better off getting started now and creating a new server now. It takes me about 2 hours from clean drive to fully functional server with directories and all.

Can it be done. Let me know everyone. Input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you can just build a new server and add it into the directory. All eDirectory information will nativly be copied to the new server (it would dhave to be a different name ofcourse). Then it is just a matter of moving the files over with their trustee rights intact. You can use the Consolodation Wizard to do that.

When you say add it into the directory you mean to that server? Then copy the information over then make that server the main server? Any articles that are available for this??

WHAT!?!?! did you really ask that question Idaho?

I am not trying to be mean here, but scratch any and all suggestions anyone has given you on this matter. What you first need to do is pick up a book at read it. With out an understanding of what eDirectory (or NDS) is, then you are in a position to really hurt your employer if your building servers for them.

When I say add it to the directory, thats exactly what I mean, add it to the directory. Not to the server, or any other physical thing on the network. eDirectory is a logical thing stored on all servers that participate in a replica ring for a partition.

Just sit tight, wait for your local consultant, and cross your fingers and hope he knows what he is doing.

Well Provo Geek like I said my knowledge is limited on some Novell but the other servers I have been running have not had a glitch. No your not being mean you are just stating something that I already know, and that is a book and some quiet time would be very good.

Thanks

I may actually get Foundations of Novell Networking: NetWare 6 (Course 3001, v2.0) Self-Study Kit like you have in the link.

This is the basic course for learning Novell from the ground up yes? Anyway with working at the school district and being a long standing customer there is a good discount that comes with it.

Thanks for the info agian.
