I purchased a laptop from Officemax (Averatec 2370) and it appears they are not getting anymore of these in. They then told me that they were replacing this item with a Everex SA2050T. I have never heard of this manufacture. Has any one heard of them and are they a good brand?

I Googles Everex and found they are the laptop of choice...for WalMart:

Offhand I would say seek a better-known low-end brand that has been around for a while, such as Acer, would be a better choice. I remember when KDS flooded the market with cheap laptops five years ago, where are they now???

They were a clone builder under their name several years ago. Haven't seen anything branded by them since probably windows3.1. At that time they were mid class, good case and power and they held up well.

First time I saw an Everex was a 386 laptop running at 10Mhz... They were of good quality back in the day but haven't seen anything from them in many years.

You don't see to many companies that disappear then come back. I called the company and talked to someone there. They said they got into Government contracts for a while and around 2000 - 2001 the started getting back into the retail end. There big claim to fame is they make all there stuff there. They don't have someone else build there products.

In today's retail market that's a guarantee that they won't be around a long time. Subbing it out is the name of the game for PC manufacturing.
