An Event ID 51 is a generic error for any type of error that is encountered when paging information to Input/Output (I/O). A paging operation is when the operating system either swaps a page of memory from memory to disk, or retrieves a page of memory from disk to memory. It is part of the memory management of Microsoft Windows NT.

However, every disk access is not necessarily paging I/O. It is possible for applications to perform non-buffered I/O to access disk data. Another misconception is that it is not writing to the page file (Pagefile.sys), which the name implies, but to any type of data access. An event ID 51 is similar to an Event ID 9 or 11, but it is not as serious an error. An Event ID 51 only occurs during a paging I/O. If this same error were to occur when there was not a paging operation, an event would not have been logged, which is unlike an Event ID 9 or 11.

Is there a SCSI controller in the system? If so there may be an issue with it. If not there may be ab issue with the IDE controller.
