Is there a limit to number of entries or volume of Event Viewer logs? I have an NT4 Server, with EV logs set to automatically overwrite items over 30 days and a size limit of 50MB. However, my Security log only keeps about a week, no matter what I do.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Perhaps it's generating enough messages to fill up 50MB in less than a month? Maybe you can try giving it more space.

Maybe you should alter what you are logging? It sounds like you are logging way to many items.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

The logs are only getting to about 13MB, so volume-wise, it has a long ways to go.

I also don't see anything within Event Viewer to limit what is being logged. Of course, with it being the Security log, I do want everything that is being logged anyway.

You select what is logged not through the Event Viewer (which would make sense, but they didn't build it that way) but through the GPO or the local security policy. Most boxes use the local policy to set logged events. Well, this is true for Windows 2000 anyway. I can't remember if it's the same way in NT.
